Roffey Robins U11 Athletic got off to a winning start against Southwater FC U11 playing their first league game at their new home ground the fabulous 3G Jack Scrase Community Pitch at Horsham FC.
Robins started on top from the kick off playing the majority of the game in the opposition’s half and limiting them to counter-attacks which the Robins back 3 led ably by Jamie C dealt with. It was only a matter of time before Robins opened their account through midfielder Noah E heading them into the lead on 5 minutes. Debutant Centre Forward Wills DuV who led the line brilliantly doubled the lead on 12 minutes and the outcome was put beyond doubt with a flurry of goals either side of the break with a hat-trick from left winger Johnny S including a great solo run from inside his own half down the left hand side to the edge of the box before cutting inside and slotting the ball past the onrushing keeper into the far corner.  Johnny S completed his hat trick with a penalty he won in the 35th minute when he was dragged down in the box about to shoot. There was also a debut goal during this phase from new signing Cyrus S who terrorised the Southwater defence with his penetrating runs down the right wing. This meant that the last third of the game was an exercise in damage limitation for the visitors. Further goals from Noah E and Cyrus S who collected his brace left the final score 8-0 to Robins. A bad tempered game, Robins showed great composure throughout as did Horsham FC U12 manager Jamie Irving who refereed with great patience in the face of noisy protests from away parents which in the end required the intervention of pitch marshals. This did not spoil what was a great start with some great fast moving football to enjoy.
