Roffey Robins Atletico Under 12’s earned their first victory since lockdown with a comprehensive 9 – 2 victory over Hassocks Seagulls at the weekend.

Atletico, who started the game on the front foot, enjoying plenty of possession, squandered a couple of chances before they made the breakthrough. The opening goal came from Lucas Byrne when a loose ball reached him at the edge of the penalty box. Byrne calmly lobbed the goalkeeper with his weaker left foot as Atletico grabbed the initiative. The second goal came quickly, with Henry Dinsdale hitting a shot like a tracer bullet from the edge of the area.

Two nil became two all, as Hassocks came back, the first from a hopeful long ball and the second from a soft penalty.

Atletico came out for the second half intent on re-establishing their lead. Daniel Gardiner had a good chance before Joshua Bellamy tucked an Aaron Woodhams cross away which was quickly followed by Dinsdale who scored his second. In the final 15 minutes Atletico were dominant. Joshua Gibson created a goal for Romario Moratalla, Woodhams scored a fine solo goal and Luca Harris sneaked a shot past the goalkeeper. The industrious William Anderson created plenty of menace, linking up well with Woodhams on the left wing as Atletico continued to push forward. Keeper Theo Botevyle had almost nothing to do in the second half, only once touching the ball from a Fin Ledingham back pass. By the final few minutes both Bellamy and Dinsdale were sniffing the chance of a hat-trick, and it was Dinsdale who scored his third and Atletico’s ninth, as his head met a late Woodhams corner.

Manager, Ricardo Moratalla said “the victory was well deserved and I’m delighted for the players. They have worked hard in training and in our recent matches. Today everything came together and I’m looking forward to seeing how we continue to develop.”
