Roffey Robins Atletico under 12’s earned their first league victory of the season on Saturday with a 2-1 triumph against Plumpton Athletic Jockeys.

Atletico made the perfect start with Joshua Bellamy opening the scoring within the first five minutes. He received a pass from Luca Harris on the left hand side of the penalty area, although had work to do before scoring. He beat two Plumpton defenders before striking the ball to the goalkeeper’s left. The keeper got a hand to the ball but couldn’t keep it out.

The remainder of the first half was an even affair. Roffey were a constant threat, particularly down the left hand side with Will Anderson and Aaron Woodhams working well together. Plumpton thought they had scored with a wonderful shot which was heading for the top right corner of the goal. Keeper Theo Botevyle somehow flung himself to his left and pulled off a wonderful save.

Atletico introduced Romario Moratalla for the second half and he immediately linked up with Bellamy to increase the pressure on the Plumpton defence. Josh Davidson was introduced to the Atletico defence and gave a composed performance alongside Tim Clifford.

Mid way through the second half, Plumpton grabbed an equaliser although Atletico immediately responded. Moratalla took the ball down the inside left channel and crossed to Bellamy who scored his second and secure the victory.

Manager, Ricardo Moratalla said “I’m delighted that we got a well deserved victory against a team that we competed well against. Joshua Bellamy played really well to get his goals, although I was impressed by players across the team today, who showed that hard work, endeavour and teamwork brings results.”
